Season of KDE is quite popular again this year. Yay! However we’re a bit short on mentors for ownCloud and digiKam projects at the moment. So in case you think you could mentor a student working on either of those 2 projects for the summer please get in touch with me asap.

The accepted students for Google Summer of Code 2010 have just been announced. Congratulations to all of you. Make us proud and rock KDE 🙂
While Google has been very very very generous this year we still had to reject very good applications again simply because there were no slots left for them. The decisions have been tough but we hope to have done the best we can. Now if you are one of the people we unfortunately couldn’t accept into GSoC for KDE we have an offer for you. Like in previous years we are running Season of KDE for you. You will work on your project with a mentor by your side and a timeline to stick to and you will get a certificate and t-shirt plus possibly some Google swag once you have successfully completed your project. We can’t pay you like Google does unfortunately but you’ll have a great experience and learn a lot. We’re aware that you might not be able to work on it full-time like during GSoC so your mentor will work with you to adjust the scope and timeline of the project.

We’ve just released a beta version of Amarok 2.3.1, codenamed Dark Star. It comes with sweet things like the Automated Playlist Generator and new context view applets showing similar artists for example. Check it out and help us get it ready for final release by reporting bugs and sending patches.

Just a quick reminder to send in your talk and workshop proposals for Akademy 2010. The deadline is April 23rd. The next two people to send in a proposal will get cookies (yes the real kind) in Finland. So go and check the call for papers, write your proposal, send it in and then see you in Tampere 🙂

KDE has once again been accepted as an org for GSoC. Yay! This means we’ll once again be welcoming a bunch of great students into our team to make KDE software rock this summer.
So what to do now?
If you’re a student who wants to take part in GSoC this year: Go and check out the ideas page and pick one you like or come up with your own idea. Then get in touch with the team working on the program you want to contribute to over the summer. Work with them to write a kick-ass proposal and then hopefully make it reality this summer. Since Google Summer of Code is coming up again very soon Sven, Phil and I will be doing a short info session at the University of Karlsruhe on Thursday at 4pm in room HS -101 in building 50.34 (Infobau). We’ll be giving a short intro to GSoC and tell a bit about how GSoC works in KDE and Debian and of course answer lots of questions. If you’re planning to apply this year you should definitely show up 🙂 Please drop me a short email if you want to attend at lydia at kde org.
